Completing the TEI Header

As explained on the page Understanding the Basics of TEI-XML, the first part of a TEI-XML document is known as the TEI Header. It contains metadata related to the document being edited and about the digital edition contained in the file. For more information on the TEI Header, see the specification on the TEI-C website.

The XML template that you downloaded previously (see Naming Files) has XML comments, which take the the format <!-- --> and which appear as green text in oXygen. These comments indicate places where you should customize the TEI Header.

Replace the comments with the appropriate information, and please ask if you have questions. In some cases, we may need to seek assistance from the archivists at the respective repositories to determine the needed information about the document.
